Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Charleston, WV- April 21, 2014) - The West Virginia Power fell on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park to the Kannapolis Intimidators, 6-4. Two runs in each the fifth and sixth innings gave Kannapolis their first victory over West Virginia in the last 13 tries.

The Intimidators came storming out of the gates, plating two runs in the first frame on RBI singles from Trey Michalczewski and Omar Narvaez. The Power responded with a pair in the bottom half when Danny Collins plated Reese McGuire on a base knock and a wild pitch scored Collins.

West Virginia took their only advantage of the game in the third after a Reese McGuire triple and a wild pitch that plated the Power catcher. In the fifth, however, the Intimidators took the lead right back with a two-RBI double by Michalczewski. Then in the sixth, Kannapolis added to their lead when Danny Hayes brought in a pair of runs with a single.

The Power cut into the deficit with an RBI infield hit by McGuire in the sixth, but that would be it for West Virginia. Kannapolis tacked on one more in the eighth and then four in the ninth to put the game out of reach.

Power relief pitcher Henry Hirsch (0-2) was charged with the loss while Jake Sanchez (2-0) earned the win for Kannapolis. West Virginia catcher Reese McGuire posted his first three-hit game, including a triple, two runs scored and a run batted in.

West Virginia hosts the Kannapolis Intimidators on Tuesday, April 22, at Appalachian Power Park. Shane Carle will take the hill for the Power against the Intimidators James Dykstra. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-2287 or visit www.wvpower.com.
