April 20, 2014 - International League (IL1)
Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Red Wings celebrated Easter in style Sunday afternoon in Syracuse. The Wings recorded season highs in both hits and runs in a 9-3 blowout victory over the Syracuse Chiefs at NBT Bank Stadium.

As has been the case for much of the season, the Wings spread their 17 base hits throughout the lineup Sunday. All nine starters picked up at least one hit, with five different Red Wings collecting multiple hits on the day.

Danny Santana, James Beresford and Chris Parmelee, the top three hitters in the Wings order, went a combined 8-for-16 with three runs scored and five RBI.

All three players picked up RBI in the second inning - including a two-run double from Santana - as Rochester raced out to a 4-0 lead.

After Beresford made it 5-0 with an RBI single in the fourth frame, Chris Rahl, who played all of last season with the Chiefs, put the game away with a three-run homer in the seventh that made it 8-0 Wings.

The Red Wings, who were just 11-for-53 (.208) with runners in scoring position over their last seven games, went 8-for-16 in those spots on Sunday

Doug Bernier, hitting in the nine-hole and starting at third base, had a nice day for the Red Wings going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and a walk.

Meanwhile on the mound, Twins prospect Trevor May (1-0) picked up the first victory of his Triple-A career. The right-hander twirled six shutout innings allowing just one hit and one walk with four strikeouts as he lowered his ERA to 2.93 on the year. Through his first three Triple-A starts this season, May has allowed just nine hits and only three walks in 15 1/3 innings.

With Sunday's victory the Wings snapped their season-long three-game road losing streak and got back to the .500 mark (8-8).

The Red Wings seek a split of the four-game series on Monday afternoon (12 p.m.) in the finale from Syracuse. Rochester will send southpaw Scott Diamond (0-2, 15.00) to the hill in search of his first victory of the season opposite Chiefs lefty Danny Rosenbaum (1-1, 4.15).

WINGS THINGS : Chris Parmelee finished with his third career four-hit day and first since June 21, 2008 with Beloit (A). He also extended his hit streak to a season-high five games over which he's now 9-for-18 (.500) with a double, HR and three RBI...The 17 hits are the most for the Red Wings since the last day of the 2013 regular season when they pounded out 18 against SWB...With two more hits with RISP on Sunday, James Beresford is now batting .478 (11-for-23) with 3 doubles and 10 RBI with runners in scoring position on the season. He has five more hits with RISP than any other Red Wing (Santana, 6-for-22). Beresford leads the club with 11 RBI... Doug Bernier has a hit in all eight of his starts this season and is 12-for-31 (.387) on the season with five extra-base hits...With four more second inning runs Sunday, the Wings have now plated 20 runs in the second inning this season - nine more than in any other inning.
