Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, fell to the Rochester Red Wings, 9-3, on Sunday afternoon thanks to a dominant performance by Red Wings pitcher Trevor May. The right-hander threw six innings of one-hit ball while striking out four and only walking one.

Rochester (8-8) struck first in the second inning when center fielder Eric Farris singled, catcher Eric Fryer walked, and third baseman Doug Bernier singled to load the bases. The next batter up, shortstop Danny Santana, doubled off the right-field wall to score Farris and Fryer. James Beresford, the second baseman, followed with a single to left field to score Bernier. Right fielder Chris Parmelee would continue the hit parade with a single up the middle to score Santana to give the Red Wings a 4-0 lead.

The Red Wings would tack on another run in the top of the fourth inning against Chiefs southpaw Tyler Robertson. James Beresford picked up his second RBI of the game with a bloop single to left field, scoring Bernier, who led the inning off with a double to deep right field.

The Rochester offense would get three more runs in the top of the seventh inning against right-hander Daniel Stange. Parmelee led off the inning with a single to center and first baseman Brad Nelson singled to put two runners on base for Chris Rahl. The former Chief sent the first pitch he saw over the right-field wall to bring everyone home, making the lead 8-0.

Syracuse (7-9) would get on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Chiefs loaded up the bases when first baseman Brock Peterson was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, followed by a Jhonatan Solano single to right field and a Brian Goodwin walk. The next batter, third baseman Brandon Laird and he popped up to first basemen Nelson, who made the catch but overthrew the ball to the plate, allowing Peterson and Solano to score, cutting the lead to 8-2.

Both teams would pick up one more run in the game. Nelson hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Parmelee for Rochester. In the bottom of the ninth, Chiefs left fielder Erik Komatsu would hit a line drive to Parmelee to score Goodwin on a sacrifice fly, making the score 9-3.

The Chiefs wrap up their four-game series with Rochester Monday at noon. Syracuse left-hander Danny Rosenbaum will take the mound against left-hander Scott Diamond.
