Heat Have Historic Night in 4-3 Win over Stars

Austin, TX - The Abbotsford Heat beat the Texas Stars (AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars) 4-3 on Saturday night at Cedar Park Center. The Heat finish the regular season second place in the West Division with a 43-25-5-3 record and 94 points.

The 2013-14 edition of the Heat made history with their 43rd win of the season, which set a new all-time wins mark. With two assists, Max Reinhart became the single season all-time point's leader with 63, surpassing Krys Kolanos' mark of 61 set back in 2011-12. Emile Poirier (1-2-3), Markus Granlund (2-0-2), and Max Reinhart (0-2-2), led the way offensively combining for seven points in the game.

Markus Granlund opened the scoring at the 12:11 mark of the first period, with the assists going to Emile Poirier and Max Reinhart. The secondary assist was Reinhart's 62nd point of the season, which made him the all-time single season point's leader. At 14:49, Granlund scored his second of the period and 25th goal of the season, assisted by Emile Poirier and Max Reinhart. Emile Poirier capped off the first period scoring, with his second goal in as many nights at 18:21, with the assist going to Chad Billins.

In the second period, the Stars got on the board at 9:45, with a power play goal from Taylor Vause. The Stars cut the Heat's lead to one goal at the 14:57 mark of the period, on a goal from Matej Stransky. Texas outshot Abbotsford 15-4 in the second period.

Stars forward Curtis McKenzie tied the game in the third period, with a goal at the 5:44 mark. However, Corey Locke scored the game winning goal at 9:51, assisted by Blair Jones and Brett Olson.

The Heat went zero out of four on the power play, and killed off two of three penalties on the evening.

Joni Ortio picked up his 27th win of the season making 37 of 40 saves, while Stars goaltender Jack Campbell was charged the loss stopping 22 of 26 shots.
