Binghamton Rounds out Regular Season with 4-2 Win

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Senators rounded out its 2013-14 regular season tonight with a 4-2 victory over the visiting Norfolk Admirals. The B-Sens did the majority of damage in the opening 20 minutes with three goals before surviving a Admirals third period push to head into the playoffs on a two-game win streak.

Buddy Robinson scored his first of two goals 7:34 into the first period when he tipped a shot from Shane Prince past Igor Bobkov to give the 1-0 lead.

Less than one minute later, Matt Puempel notched his 30th goal when he put a rebound past Bobkov following a wrist shot from Cody Ceci making the score 2-0.

Ryan Dzingel pushed the score to 3-0 on his second goal as a professional just before the midway point of the first. Binghamton carried the three-goal advantage to the first intermission as starting goaltender Scott Greenham stopped all seven shots faced through the opening 20 minutes of play.

Following a scoreless second period, Norfolk got on the scoreboard at the 9:18 mark of the third when former Binghamton Senator Andre Petersson notched a power-play goal to cut the score to 3-1. Kevin Gagne made it a one-goal contest with less than two minutes to play, but Robinson converted on an empty-net opportunity with four seconds remaining to put the final score at 4-2.

Robinson finished with two goals for the second time in three contests while Dzingel finished with a goal and an assist to lead the B-Sens. Prince chipped in two helpers while Gagne led all Norfolk skaters with a goal and an assist.

Greenham played the first 33 minutes for Binghamton stopping all 16 shots faced. Chris Driedger made his first B-Sens appearance in net allowing two goals on 22 shots faced. Bobkov allowed four goals on 29 shots in the losing effort.

Binghamton will face its rival Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the opening round of the Calder Cup Playoffs starting at home on Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26. Both games are set to start at 7:05p.m. Game three will be played in Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, April 30. The Penguins, if necessary, will host game four on Friday, May 2. If needed the final game of the five-game series will be back in Binghamton on Monday, May 5, at 7:05p.m.

Tickets for the first two games played at the Broome County Arena will go on sale Monday, April 21, starting at 10:00a.m. All first-round tickets are $20 for side seats and $19 for end seating.
