Lexington Legends News Release

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Augusta GreenJackets built an early lead and never trailed on their way to a 5-2 win over the Lexington Legends Saturday night.

The GreenJackets moved in front with two runs in the first inning. Shawn Payne drew a leadoff walk and stole second base. Ryder Jones walked, and both runners moved up when Brandon Bednar grounded out. Devin Harris' single scored Payne, and a sacrifice fly by Christian Arroyo brought Jones home.

Augusta added a run in the second inning. With two outs, Cristian Paulino reached second on an infield hit and a throwing error by pitcher Jake Junis. Paulino stole third and came home on an error by third baseman Mauricio Ramos.

The Legends scored their first run in the bottom of the second. Fred Ford's line drive to center was mishandled by Paulino for an error, and Ford reached third. He scored on Ramos' one-out double, cutting the Augusta lead to 3-1.

Bednar's solo homer in the third gave the GreenJackets a 4-1 lead, but the Legends answered with a run in the fourth when Ford doubled and later scored as Dominique Taylor grounded into a force play.

Augusta's final run came in the sixth on a leadoff double by Arroyo and a two-out triple by John Polonius.

GreenJackets' starter Matt Lujan (3-0) worked five and two-thirds innings. He allowed seven hits, two runs, one unearned, struck out five batters and walked none. Junis (1-2) took the loss.

Augusta won two of three games in the series. The Legends, now 8-9 for the season, will open a three-game series in Hickory Monday night. Game time at Crawdads Stadium is 6 p.m.

Attendance 4,965
