Saturday's Game Versus Drive Suspended

April 19, 2014 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, GA - Saturday's game between the Greenville Drive and the Savannah Sand Gnats at Historic Grayson Stadium has been officially suspended due to rain and the resulting field conditions. The game will be resumed on Wednesday, May 14, prior to the regularly scheduled game at Historic Grayson Stadium. Start time is yet to be announced.

Tickets purchased for Saturday's suspended game can be exchanged for a general admission ticket to the resumption game on Wednesday, May 14, subject to availability.

The game was suspended in the bottom of the sixth inning with the Drive and Gnats tied up, 3-3. Gnats catcher Jeff Glenn had just hit a lead-off double to right field off of Greenville reliever Myles Smith when rain took over the field.

After looking sharp in his first two starts of the season, Gnats starter John Michael Gant struggled through five innings where Drive batters notched eight hits with all three runs being earned. Drive starter Mario Alcantara did not fare any better, as the righthander walked five Savannah hitters and allowed three earned runs over just three innings before being lifted for Smith.

Designated hitter Jared King's earned a walk in the first inning, representing his league-high 15th consecutive game on-base.

The Gnats head to Salisbury, Md., for a three game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds to start out a seven game road trip. Righthander Chris Flexen (0-1, 5.73) is set to set to take the mound Monday, April 21, against opposing righthander Austin Urban (0-1, 10.57). First pitch at Arthur W. Purdue Stadium is set for 7:05 p.m.
