Murphy Hits First Homer But Fisher Cats Fall to Mets

BINGHAMTON, NY- Catcher Jack Murphy went 2-for-4 with his first home run of the season but Binghamton broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth en route to a 3-2 win over the Fisher Cats Saturday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium.
The Fisher Cats (5-9) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Andy Burns reached on a two-base error on a grounder to short, advanced to third on a fly out by Gabe Jacobo, and scored on Andy Fermin's two-out single to center.
Binghamton (9-5) battled back in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dustin Lawley doubled and scored on a single by Xorge Carrillo to tie the game at 1-1. Wilfredo Tovar and Matt Reynolds followed with singled to give the Mets a 2-1 lead against starter Deck McGuire.
McGuire left after five innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out five. Binghamton's Rainy Lara also did not figure in the decision, allowing just the one unearned run in his six innings on only two hits.
The Fisher Cats tied the game in the top of the seventh inning when Murphy homered to right field off reliever John Church.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Reynolds (4-for-4) singled and scored when Matt Clark's single by got by Jon Berti in left for the game-winning run off reliever Richard Bleier (0-1).
Church (1-0) earned the win in relief and Chasen Bradford picked up his second save, working around Murphy's single in the top of the ninth as Binghamton earned a series win for the second consecutive weekend against New Hampshire.
New Hampshire returns to action on Monday night in New Britain at 6:35pm. RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx is scheduled for to start for the Fisher Cats against New Britain LHP Pat Dean (2-0, 4.11). Radio coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. with Bob Lipman on WGIR 610 AM and www.nhfishercats.com. ==]
The Fisher Cats return home for their next homestand on Friday, April 25 at 6:35 p.m. against the Reading Fightin Phils.
