Hagerstown Suns News Release

About last game... The Hagerstown Suns (11-4) piled up nine runs over two innings on Friday night en route to a 10-8 win over the Lakewood BlueClaws (4-10) in front of 532 at Municipal Stadium. The win is the sixth in as many games for the Suns over the BlueClaws this season.

Facing a 4-0 deficit in the second inning, Hagerstown managed to send five runs across the plate in the frame to take a one-run lead. The inning began with a solo homerun by 1B John Wooten, his first dinger of the year and the team's fifth. Eight batters and five hits later Wooten ended the frame with a fly out to right.

In the third Lakewood managed to tie the game at 5-5 on an RBI groundout by LF Larry Greene Jr. However, in the bottom half of the inning the Suns offense went to work again sending four more runs across the plate. Back-to-back errors began the bottom of the inning and allowed DH Jimmy Yezzo to reach second with no one out. Yezzo wound up scoring on a sacrifice fly by catcher Spencer Kieboom. The other three runs in the frame scored on a bases- clearing two-out triple by 2B Wilmer Difo, which put Hagerstown ahead for good.

The BlueClaws scored their initial three runs before an out was made in the top of the first thanks to a three-run homer by DH Dylan Cozens. Cozens finished the game a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. The final first-inning Lakewood run scored on an RBI single by RF Samuel Hiciano.

Two run-producing groundouts and a wild pitch allowed Lakewood to cut its deficit to one run in the fourth, but the BlueClaws would be held scoreless for the remainder of the game.

An insurance run knocked home by a double from RF Estarlin Martinez in the seventh set the final score at 10-8.

LHP Matthew Spann (2-0) threw four scoreless innings in relief for the Suns to earn the win. He gave up three hits and two walks while striking out four. Starting RHP Ranfi Casimiro (0- 2) suffered the loss for Lakewood. For his second straight outing against Hagerstown he lasted just 2.2 innings, getting charged with nine runs (five earned) on seven hits and four walks. RHP Ryan Ullmann pitched a scoreless ninth for Hagerstown to record his second save in as many appearances this year.

On the Mound... RHP Jake Johansen will be heading to the hill tonight for the Suns. He is making his third start and appearance this season. He last pitched on April 13 at Lakewood, going five innings and allowing one earned run on two hits while walking four and striking out six to earn the win. His lone previous appearance came at home on April 8 against Delmarva, when he went four innings and surrendered two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven. Tonight he goes up against RHP Shane Martin for the BlueClaws. Martin is making his third start and appearance as well. He last took the mound on April 13 at home against the Suns, going six innings and giving up six earned runs on 10 hits while striking out two as he suffered the loss. He also took a loss in his first start of the year on April 8 at Greensboro, when he pitched five innings and surrendered three earned runs on six hits while walking one and striking out two.
