Bees Split Doubleheader in Tacoma

The Bees rallied to score four runs in the seventh inning of game two of a doubleheader and edged the Tacoma Rainiers 5-4.Salt Lake snapped a nine-game losing streak, as Tacoma had taken the opening game of the twinbill 2-1. The Bees trailed 3-1 in the seventh, but loaded the bases with no outs when Roberto Lopez doubled, John Hester was hit by a pitch and Shawn O'Malley beat out a bunt single. Taylor Lindsey hit a bouncer in front of the plate that was booted by Tacoma pitcher Carson Smith to pull Salt Lake to within one. Two outs later, Efren Navarro extended his hitting streak to fourteen games with a three run double to right centerfield. Tacoma scored one run in the bottom of the seventh and had the bases loaded with one out when Michael Morin got Endy Chavez to ground into a game ending double play.

In game one, C.J. Cron belted his third home run of the season in the fourth inning to give the Bees a 1-0 lead, but Tacoma strung together three straight singles after two outs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. Jesus Montero delivered a one out single in the sixth inning and pinch runner Ty Kelly scored the eventual winning run on Julio Morban's double into the right field corner. Justin Thomas (1-1) was charged with the tough luck loss, as he went five and one-third innings and allowed just two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Cron and Navarro each had two hits to lead the Bees.
