Bakersfield Takes 1-0 Series Lead with 1-0 Win
April 18, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL) - Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Bakersfield Condors defeated the Utah Grizzlies 1-0 Friday night at Maverik Center to take a one game to none lead in the 2-3-2 Western Conference first round playoff series.
Andrew Carroll knocked in the game's only goal 4:59 into the third period as Bakersfield won a face-off and was able to hold the puck in. It was thrown in through traffic and deflected into the net.
Utah goaltender Aaron Dell stopped 25 of 26 shots in the losing cause. Bakersfield goaltender Laurent Brossoit went 26/26.
"I thought we played decently all game," said Grizzlies Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "We need to do a better job of getting traffic in front of Broissoit. We need to be hungrier around the paint, that's one thing that they did to get their goal."
Bakersfield drew six of the seven power-plays including four in the final 21:09 of the contest. Utah killed four-straight minutes shorthanded that carried from late in the second until 2:51 into the third period to keep the game scoreless.
Utah came out strong to start, taking seven of the game's first nine shots and drawing their only power-play 2:12 into the contest.
"We have to make sure that no matter whatever adversity we face be it the referees, the other team, injuries or what have you that we have to come out on top and it starts tomorrow," said Branham.
Game 2 between the Grizzlies and Condors is Saturday at Maverik Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
