Fisher Cats Score in Ninth to Beat Mets

BINGHAMTON, NY- Jon Berti delivered a sacrifice fly and Brad Glenn followed with a two-run single in the top of the ninth to give the Fisher Cats a 6-3 win over the Mets on Friday night in Binghamton.
Tied 3-3 entering the ninth, Andy Fermin (2-for-4) singled and Jonathan Jones (3-for-4) beat out an infield single. Kenny Wilson laid down a bunt with pitcher Jon Velasquez (0-1) electing to try to force Fermin unsuccessfully at third. Berti followed with his game-winning sacrifice fly and Glenn followed with a two-run single.
Aaron Sanchez did not earn the win, although he handcuffed the Mets through six scoreless innings. The Fisher Cats RHP allowed four hits, walked two and struck out six, leaving with his team in front 3-0.
New Hampshire's Gabe Jacobo (1st), Glenn (1st) and Ryan Schimpf (4th) had hit solo homers in the second, fourth and sixth innings off Mets starter Darin Gorski to put the Fisher Cats in front.
Binghamton rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh against the bullpen. Dustin Lawley started the rally with a single, Corey Vaughn followed with a double and Travis Tairjeon walked to load the bases. Wilfredo Tovar walked to force in a run to make it 3-1. Matt Reynolds singled home a run to cut the deficit to 3-2. Taijeron scored on a passed ball.
Tony Davis (1-0) worked 1.1 innings in relief and picked up the win in relief. Gregory Infante retired Binghamton in order in the bottom of the ninth for his second save.
The series with the Mets concludes on Saturday at 1:05pm. RHP Deck McGuire (2-1, 3.38) will start for the Fisher Cats against Binghamton RHP Rainy Lara (2-0, 2.19). Radio coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. with Bob Lipman on WGIR 610 AM and www.nhfishercats.com.
