K-Wings fall to Road Warriors in game one Kalamazoo drops game one 2-1 to Greenville
April 18, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL) - Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI - The Greenville Road Warriors lived up to the team nickname Friday night, jumping out to a second period lead and never looking back in a 2-1 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings in game one of the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Quarterfinals matchup.
Despite the first period remaining scoreless, the K-Wings and Road Warriors made their presences known. Kalamazoo left the ice with a 9-7 shooting advantage during a physical opening period.
Shots and scoring chances changed dramatically in the middle stanza. The Road Warriors outshot the K-Wings 25-11, which included the first goal of the best-of-seven series.
Skating 4-on-4, Andrew Rowe laid a cross rink pass to the tape of Marc-Olivier Vallerand (1st) 8:15 in the period for the go-ahead marker.
Greenville added to their advantage in the third period when Bretton Cameron (1st) utilized a Ryan Hegarty screen 7:41 into the period to put the Road Warriors up by two goals.
Cutting the lead in half moments later was Yannick Veilleux (1st). Veilleux found the puck in the high slot after Elgin Reid kept the puck in the zone with his skate.
Game one was a goaltending duel that was won by Jason Missiaen (1-0), who made 35 saves in the victory. Jordan Binnington (0-1) was just as good for the K-Wings turning aside 34 shots in defeat.
