Stingrays Fall to Nailers in Game 1 of Eastern Conference Quarterfinals

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (0-1) fell to the Wheeling Nailers (1-0) 3-0 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday evening. The Stingrays trail the best-of-seven series 1-0.

Nailers forward Chaz Johnson opened the scoring 1:46 into the contest ripping a shot from the right-wing circle past Stingrays netminder Allen York (L, 30 saves on 33 shots). Forward Christiaan Minella made it a two-goal Nailers advantage at 16:32 catching a pass from forward Max MacKay and slipping the puck between the legs of York.

In the third period, defenseman Mike Ratchuk sealed the victory blasting a shot from the left point past the glove of a screened York. Nailers goaltender Mike Condon picked up the shutout making 23 saves. The Stingrays finished the contest 0-for-5 on the power play while the Nailers went 0-for-4.
