Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (APRIL 18, 2014) - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, have received Will Lamb from Extended Spring Training. He is now on the active roster and eligible to play in Friday's game against Wilmington. In a corresponding move, Cody Buckel has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a left ankle sprain.
Lamb, 23, spent all of last season with Myrtle Beach. The left-hander out of Yorktown, VA went 5-3 with a 5.17 ERA in 39 appearances for the Birds in 2013, starting one game, and saving another. He fanned 62 batters in 69.2 innings and walked 39. Drafted in the 2nd round in 2011, Lamb played collegiately at Clemson University where he was a two-way player. In three years for the Tigers he was 5-5 with a 4.45 ERA in 43 outings, 15 starts and hit .316 as an outfielder with seven home runs and 81 RBI over 138 career games.
Buckel, 21, made three starts for the Pelicans, most recently on Tuesday night. He was 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA on the season. The right-hander worked 6.2 innings, allowed four hits, issued 14 walks, hit two batters, and fanned four.
These moves follow a similar set of transactions yesterday. Ryan Bores was received from Extended Spring Training and Ryan Harvey was placed on the 7-day disabled list with left calf tightness.
The Pelicans roster remains at 25 active players, which is the Carolina League limit.
The Pelicans open a four-game series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Friday night at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. Luis Parra (1-1. 0.79 ERA) takes the hill for the Pelicans against reigning Carolina League Pitcher of the Week Christian Binford (1-0, 0.00 ERA).
Season Seats, Mini Plans, Flex Books, and single game tickets are still available to see the Pelicans in 2014.
