Long Ball Gives Missions Win over Hounds
April 18, 2014 - Texas League (TL1)
San Antonio Missions News Release
MIDLAND-Devin Jones bobbed and weaved through early trouble on the mound but the Missions used the longball and strong relief to capture the series opener Thursday night in front of 5,228 at Security Bank Ballpark.
Jones stranded the bases loaded in the opening inning and left two runners in the next frame before settling down and working a total of five innings.
Three Missions relievers combined on four innings of one-hit ball with seven strikeouts. Johnny Barbato notched his Texas League-leading fifth save.
Jason Hagerty homered in his 2014 debut for San Antonio while Bridger Hunt added a two-run shot.
Hagerty started the season on the DL with a hamstring injury.
Notebook: Reliever Jeff Ibarra was placed on the DL (hamstring) to make room for Hagerty...INF Cory Spangenberg did not play Thursday. He is suffering concussion-like symptoms stemming from Tuesday when he was briefly shaken up after sliding into second base.
Next Up: Friday-Missions RH Justin Hancock (1-1, 3.60) @ Midland RH Raul Alcantara (2-0, 1.23) at 7:00 PM.
