Sacramento River Cats News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - By going 2-for-3 with two runs, one home run, and two RBI, Fresno Grizzlies catcher and local Jesuit High School alum Andrew Susac led Fresno to a 7-3 win on Thursday Night at Raley Field, ending the Sacramento River Cats' six-game winning streak.

Righty Josh Lindblom (1-1, 7.79 ERA) takes his first loss of the season after pitching six innings, allowing nine hits, six runs-five earned-with one walk and seven strikeouts. Grizzlies starter RHP Chris Heston (1-1, 4.60 ERA) picked up his first win of 2014, going 5.2 innings surrendering three earned runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking one.

Fresno third baseman Tony Abreu started a three-run third inning with a single to center field and was quickly driven home on shortstop Ydwin Villegas' triple to give the Grizzlies an early 1-0 lead. Villegas followed suit, trotting home on center fielder Gary Brown's RBI single. After reaching third on a throwing-error by Cats catcher Ryan Ortiz, Brown crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by Grizzlies second baseman Joe Panik, putting Fresno on top 3-0.

River Cats center fielder Shane Peterson responded in the bottom half of the third, hitting his second home run of the season, a one-out solo-shot to right field, cutting the lead to two.

Susac stifled the Cats' momentum, hitting a two-run homer to left field to increase Sacramento's deficit to four, but the River Cats kept clawing their way back, scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth on shortstop Tyler Ladendorf's RBI double to make it a 5-2 ball game.

Fresno tacked on one run in the top of the sixth after Abreu's single to center field scored Susac from second. Sacramento designated hitter Kent Matthes scored from third on a Heston wild pitch to get the Cats back within three in the bottom half of the frame.

After both bullpens pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings, the Grizzlies added some insurance with a run in the top of the ninth on an RBI double by right fielder Juan Perez.

Earning his first save of the season for Fresno was reliever George Kontos, tossing two scoreless innings of relief, yielding three hits while striking out two.

River Cats second baseman Alden Carrithers extended his hitting-streak to 12 games with a single to centerfield in his last at-bat, finishing 1-for-5 on the evening. Cats first baseman Anthony Aliotti went 3-for-4 on the night, while Ortiz added two hits of his own, scoring a run and drawing a walk.

Sacramento closes the series with Fresno on Fireworks Friday at Raley Field, sending RHP Arnold Leon (0-1, 6.00 ERA) to the hill to face Fresno LHP Mike Kickham (0-2, 3.52 ERA) with first pitch called for 7:05 p.m. Fans are invited to stay for a fantastic fireworks-display taking place right after the game.
