Oklahoma City Baseball Club News Release

Colorado Springs, Colo. - After scoring one run through the first nine innings, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox scored runs in the 10th and 11th innings to defeat the Oklahoma City RedHawks, 3-2, Thursday night at Security Service Field.

Unlike the first two games of the series, offense was scarce Thursday night and the game was tied 1-1 after nine innings. Ronny Torreyes led off the 10th inning with a pinch-hit triple for the RedHawks, and two batters later, Gregorio Petit hit a sac fly to right field to give the RedHawks their first lead of the game.

In the bottom of the inning, Kyle Parker led off with a double to right-center field on a fly ball just out of the reach of Austin Wates. After Darin Downs retired the next two hitters, Rafael Ynoa stepped up and lined the first pitch from Downs (0-1) into center field for a game-tying RBI single.

Manny Corpas (1-1) held the RedHawks scoreless in the top of the 11th. Jason Pridie then led off the bottom of the inning with a double.

With Pridie at third and one out, Matt McBride hit a fly ball to right-center field. Enrique Hernandez made the catch, but his throw home was not in time as Pridie scored the game-winning run.

The loss snapped a seven-game road winning streak for the RedHawks (10-5), which had tied the previous club record. Colorado Springs (6-8) also snapped a four-game losing streak.

Some tough luck led the RedHawks to fall behind in the first inning. With two outs, McBride kept the inning alive with an infield single. Ben Paulsen came up next and sent a fly ball to shallow center field. Wates tried to make a diving catch, but the ball went off his glove. McBride scored all the way from first, giving the Sky Sox a 1-0 lead.

The Sky Sox held the slight edge for several innings, as the RedHawks were quieted by Colorado Springs starting pitcher Tyler Matzek, who fired six scoreless frames. The lefty allowed just two hits with one walk and two strikeouts. He finished by retiring 11 of the last 12 he faced, including the last seven straight.

After Matzek left the game, the RedHawks were able to generate some offense against reliever Rob Scahill. With one out, Hernandez drew a walk and then stole second base. Jonathan Meyer then drove Hernandez home with a single up the middle, tying the game, 1-1.

The RedHawks pitching staff shut down the Sky Sox for most of the game. Between the second and ninth innings, three pitchers combined hold Colorado Springs scoreless while allowing just two hits. At one point, tandem starters Collin McHugh and Nick Tropeano retired 18 straight batters.

McHugh went the first five innings, allowing one run and three hits, with no walks and three strikeouts. He retired 13 of the last 14 Sky Sox who stepped to the plate, including the last nine in a row. Nick Tropeano continued where McHugh left off, retiring the first nine hitters he faced. Tropeano tossed 3.2 scoreless innings before Downs recorded the final out of the ninth.

The RedHawks wrap up their series in Colorado Springs at 7:35 p.m. central time Friday night with a chance to still win the series. Live coverage begins at 7:05 p.m. on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
