Bees Late Rally Falls Short in Series Opener

Burlington-IA - The Burlington Bees fell short in the series opener in Eastlake Ohio on Thursday night falling to the Lake County Captains by the score of 6- 3.
The Bees were looking to make it two straight after their exhausting 18 inning win in Fort Wayne on Wednesday. The Captains took the lead first however with a run in the first inning thanks to an SAC fly from Nellie Rodriguez giving the Captains a 1- 0 lead after one.
The Bees bounced right back tying the game in the second when Exicardo Cayones signaled into left. Ryan Dalton would be able to score from first thanks to an errant throw from the Captains right fielder tying the game up at one.
Burlington's offense was held in check however by starting pitcher Adam Plutko who worked four innings striking out eight Bees' hitters in a no decision.
Lake County regained the lead in the third inning when Eric Haase homered to left. The Captains added to that lead in the next inning when Cody Farrell singled in a run and the Bees fell behind 3- 1.
Eric Agulera was able to cut the Bees' deficit in half with an RBI single scoring. Chad Hinshaw in the sixth Lake County grabbed the run right back with an RBI single by Clint Frazier. The Captains went on to score two more runs on a double by Cody Farrell and the Bees trailed 6- 2.
The Bees threatened int eh ninth scoring a run on a Ryan Dalton RBI double. The Bees loaded the bases with nobody out but a tough luck double play cut down a run at the plate. The Bees would not recover falling by the score of 6- 3.
Lake County reliever Caleb Hamrick 1- 1 picked up the win while Bees' starter Clint Sharp 0- 1 was pegged with the loss while Captains reliever Wander Beras 1 earned the save.
The Bees and the Captains continue the series tomorrow night at 5 30 PM central time. Michael Clevinger makes the start for the Bees while Mitch Brown goes for the Captains.
