Rockets Re-Assign Canaan and Covington to NBA D-League's RGV Vipers

HOUSTON - Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has re-assigned guard Isaiah Canaan and forward Robert Covington to Houston's single-affiliation NBA D-League partner Rio Grande Valley.

Canaan (6-0, 188, Murray State), who was recalled by Houston on April 15, scored 35 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished seven assists in the Vipers win over the Iowa Energy on April 14. Canaan averaged 21.8 points, 8.2 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 18 games (17 starts) with Rio Grande Valley the season. He was named along with Pierre Jackson of the Idaho Stampede as the NBA D-League Co-Performers of the Week for games played Dec. 2-8. Canaan was again named along with Terrence Williams of the L.A. D-Fenders as D-League Co-Performers of the Week for games played Jan. 20-26. Selected by the Rockets with the 34th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, Canaan was named to the NBA D-League All-Star Game, but was unable to attend due to injury (strained right hamstring).

Covington (6-9, 215, Tennessee State), who scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the playoff win over the Iowa Energy, averaged 23.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.40 steals and 1.36 blocks in 42 games (41 starts) with Rio Grande Valley this season. The Vipers leading scorer finished the regular season ranked second in the D-League in scoring (23.2), eighth in the league in rebounding average (9.2) and second in steals per game (2.40). Covington was also named the 2014 D-League All-Star Game MVP after scoring 22 (7-13 FG, 3-5 3FG, 5-6 FT) of his D-League All-Star Game record 33 points (12-23 FG, 4-8 3FG, 5-6 FT) in the second half to lift the Prospects to a 145-142 win over the Futures in New Orleans (2/15/14).
