Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Looking for depth in the outfield, the Traverse City Beach Bums have signed former Orioles and Angels farmhand George Barber.

"He will be battling for an outfield spot," Manager Dan Rohn said. "He's had some good number in the past and we're looking forward to what he can bring to our team during camp."

Barber, 24, spent last year in three levels of the Orioles system, topping out with the Bowie Baysox (Eastern - AA). He also appeared in games with the Delmarva Shorebirds (South Atlantic - A) and Aberdeen Ironbirds (New York/Penn - A-). Combined in 46 games, Barber hit .203 with 20 runs scored and six RBI.

The Orioles signed him in October of 2012 after two years off from professional baseball. Barber was originally a 43rd round of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2010 out of Broward Community College in Florida. He played one season with the Arizona League Angels in Rookie ball, hitting .235 in seven games.

A native of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Barber played for Broward for two seasons before being drafted. In the two years between stints in affiliated baseball, he attended Florida International University where he studied nursing.
