Chiefs Sweep Double Header from Captains

(Eastlake, OH)- The Peoria Chiefs swept a double header from the Captains on Wednesday night at Classic Park. Peoria (8-4) won the first game by a final of 4-0 and game two by a final of 4-0 as well. Lake County (4-9) did not score a run in either game. The Captains have now lost eight games in a row.

In game one, Peoria scored three runs in the top of the third inning. Michael Schulze singled to begin the inning. C.J. McElroy sacrificed the runner to second. Juan Herrera doubled home Schulze and the score was 1-0. Carson Kelly walked and then both Kelly and Herrera stole a base. With runners at second and third a wild pitch scored Herrera and the score was 2-0. A base hit by Ronald Castillo scored Kelly and the Chiefs led 3-0.

Peoria scored another run in the top of the sixth inning. The Captains committed three errors and were charged with a passed ball, which led to another Chiefs run. The score was 4-0 and that was the final in game one.

In game two, Peoria scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings respectively. In the fourth Jimmy Bosco tripled, and scored on a Ronald Castillo single. Castillo later scored on a single from Steve Bean. It was 2-0 headed to the fifth. In the fifth inning, with two on and one out, a wild pitch moved both runners to scoring position. Both runs came into score on a soft single to left field by Bosco. The score was 4-0. That was the final of game two.

RHP Dace Kime (0-3) got the start for Lake County and took the loss. Kime pitched four innings, and allowed three earned runs on four hits, two walks and one strike out. Alexis Parades pitched the final three innings and allowed one unearned run he had one strikeout.

The Chiefs RHP Nick Petree (2-0) started game one for the Chiefs and earned the win. Petree pitched six innings of shutout baseball. He allowed four hits, two walks and he fanned five. Kyle Barraclough pitched the seventh inning for the Chiefs and did not allow a run.

RHP Jordan Milbrath (1-1) started game two for the Captains and took the loss. Milbrath pitched four and one third innings and allowed four earned runs, five hits, two walks and he set down four on strikes. Ben Heller pitched one and two thirds innings of scoreless baseball. Trevor Frank pitched the seventh inning for the Captains and did not allow a run.

RHP Arturo Reyes (2-1) pitched six innings of shutout baseball in game two for the Chiefs. Reyes allowed just two hits and one walk. He struck out eight. Chris Thomas pitched the seventh inning for the Chiefs and did not allow a run.

The Captains will remain home in Eastlake, Ohio on Thursday to take on the Burlington in game one of a three game series. RHP Adam Plutko (0-0, 4.15) will start for the Captains and the Bees will counter with RHP Clint Sharp (0-0, 3.24). First Pitch is at 6:30 PM from Classic Park.

Thursday is Thirsty Thursday, presented by ESPN 850 WKNR, which features a .25-cent beer Happy Hour for one hour before game time and half-price draft beer and fountain soda until 9 PM.

As part of Thirsty Thursday, the Captains will offer an all-you-can eat wing and pizza buffet for only $13 outside the Corona Castaways Bar.
