Register Named ECHL Defenseman of the Year

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, have announced that defenseman Matt Register has been named CCM Hockey ECHL Defenseman of the Year for 2013-14 as voted on by ECHL coaches, broadcasters, media relations directors, and media members.

Register, 24, finished the 2013-14 season tied for second among all defensemen with 44 points (14g, 30a). The blueliner had three game-winning goals throughout the season for Ontario; one in regulation, and two in overtime. He also score a shootout, game-winning goal over the Stockton Thunder.

This is the first time in team history that a Reign player, skater or goalie, has been recognized with a year-end award. Register was also the first Reign player to ever be named to the All-ECHL First Team announced earlier this month.

Register was the second leading scorer for the Reign, top defenseman. He also finished the year with a +21, the second best plus-minus rating on the team.

Reign Drops:

The Reign will begin the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs in Stockton on Friday, Apr. 18 and Saturday, Apr. 19 in Stockton.
