Jackson Generals News Release
KODAK, TENN. (APRIL 16, 2014) - Following Tuesday's postponed game, the Jackson Generals (7-5) had to wait an extra day to attempt to extend their two-game winning streak. However, an early lead and a scoring outburst in the fourth inning by the Tennessee Smokies (6-6) proved to be too much to overcome as Jackson fell 7-2 at Smokies Park Wednesday.
Starter Trevor Miller (0-2) went 3.2 innings and allowed four hits and six runs before earning his second loss of the season.
Miler found himself facing a five-run, bottom of the fourth that provided Tennessee with lasting momentum for the remainder of the game.
Ahead 1-0, the Smokies added two runs off of a single by Jae-Hoon Ha to start the big inning. Jonathan Mota added a sacrifice fly to score Dustin Geiger on the following at-bat.
John Anderoli provided the final blow with an RBI single to score Jae-Hoon Ha and Rafael Lopez to give Tennessee a 6-0 lead.
The Generals answered in the fifth with a two-out RBI single by Mike Dowd (1-3, RBI, BB) to score Dan Paolini (2-4, RBI, R). But the Smokies responded in the home half of the inning as Wes Darvill scored on a sac fly by Rubi Silva.
Jackson added a run in the ninth as Jabari Blash (1-3) scored on an RBI single by Paolini. However, the attempted rally fell short as the Generals left the bases loaded during the game's final out.
W- Jake Arrieta (1-1): 5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 0 HR, 0.73 ERA
L- Trevor Miller (0-2): 3.2 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO, 0 HR, 7.30 ERA
The Generals continue their series with the Tennessee Smokies with a doubleheader on Thursday. Game 2 will feature RHP Moises Hernandez (0-0, 9.00 ERA) facing RHP Dae Eun Rhee (0-1, 3.12)
The Generals return to the Ballpark at Jackson on Saturday to kickoff a homestand against the Chattanooga Lookouts. The Ballpark at Jackson will hold a Half-way to Halloween event, Educators Appreciation Night, a Beyond Blame Post-Game Concert and the second fireworks show of the season.
