Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, Ky. - Jacob Faria dominated the Kane County Cougars (Class-A/Chicago Cubs) for six innings, and left the game with the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays) in front, 2-1. However, Kane County scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to steal victory away from Bowling Green.
Faria's only rough inning occurred in the first. He allowed a lead-off double to Jacob Hannemann, who reached third on a fielding error in right field. Following a walk to Carlos Penalver, a delayed double steal was put in motion, and Hannemann came in to score as the throw went into second base.
After the first two reached, Faria set down 15 of the next 16 batters faced as he turned in his finest performance of his professional career. Faria went a Hot Rods season-high six innings, and allowed just the one unearned run on three hits. He issued just one free pass, and struck out six Cougar batters.
The Hot Rods trailed until the sixth, when they broke through for two runs. Pat Blair and Juniel Querecuto led off with back-to-back singles, and were moved up to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by Kean Wong. Johnny Field then hit a sacrifice fly to right field that plated Blair. Three pitches later, a ball got away from catcher Ben Carhart, allowing Querecuto to score from third. Bowling Green led 2-1 after six innings of play.
The lead stood until the top of the ninth, when Kane County rallied for five runs. The inning began with singles by Carhart and Yasiel Balaguert, and the game was tied by a David Bote run-scoring single. Daniel Lockhart put the Cougars in front with a base hit of his own, as 10 men came to the plate in the frame. The inning gave the Kane County its final margin of 6-2 over the Hot Rods.
Tyler Bremer (1-0) was inserted into the eighth inning and picked up the win after he recorded the final five outs.
Andrew Hanse (0-1) was handed the loss out of the Bowling Green bullpen.
The Hot Rods will try to end the franchise's worst losing streak since moving to Bowling Green on Thursday night, as a six-game homestand continues with the Clinton Lumberkings (Seattle Mariners) arriving at Bowling Green Ballpark. It will be Thirsty Thursday, and Pepsi products along with select draft beer will be just $2. Fans are encouraged to dress in their best 1970's attire, as it will also be "'70's Night" at the ballpark. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. with the drink specials beginning when gates open at 6 p.m.
