Arizona Sundogs News Release

Independence, Missouri - In another thrilling double overtime win the Arizona Sundogs sealed the victory against the Missouri Mavericks 4-3 at the Independence Event Center and advanced to round two. This is the first time an eighth seed team has knocked out a first seed team in the Central Hockey League Playoffs.

The game was tied after the first period with a goal each. Missouri's Mike Ramsay lit the lamp with a top shelf goal from Obi Aduba and Matt Stephenson 13:36 into the period. Johan Ryd received a shorthanded breakaway chance after Sebastian Geoffrion was given two minutes for elbowing 16:37 into the opening period but couldn't connect. With 1:04 to go in the first Arizona answered back with a goal from Kevin Baker and assists from Alex Tuckerman and David Rutherford knotting the game going into the second period.

The Mavericks regained the lead posting two goals in the second. 4:18 into the period Eric Castonguay scored from Ramsay and Thinel and 3:07 later Colten Hayes followed it up with Missouri's third goal.

Two unanswered power play goals from the Sundogs in the third period pushed the game into a double overtime for the second straight game. The first came 7:31 into the period after Dave Pszenyczny was called for roughing. Paul Mcilveen tallied the goal from Jason Morgan and Tuckerman. Less than three minutes later Shawn Limpright equalized the game, again while on the man-advantage. Baker and Mcilveen picked up the helpers.

Overtime proved to be a nail-biter when the Mavericks put up a few big plays and Andrew Engelage shut them down, in their tracks. The Sundogs took the only penalty in overtime when Arizona was assessed two minutes for a too many men bench minor and successfully killed off. Baker would tally his second of the night and the game winner in double overtime.

Engelage made 32 saves. Arizona outshot Missouri 42-35. The Sundogs were 2-4 on the power play while Missouri was 0-4. After Denver's 5-4 overtime win against the Tulsa Oilers the Sundogs will go to Denver for a pair of games this weekend and return to Prescott Valley for games three and four on April 22nd and 23rd.

The Arizona Sundogs are the Central Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes. Season tickets, mini-plan, and single-game ticket information is now available by calling (928) 759-6600 or visiting arizonasundogs.com.
