Denver Cutthroats Advance to Second Round

Tulsa - The Tulsa Oilers hosted the Denver Cutthroats at the BOK Center for Game 6 in the opening round of the 2014 Playoffs on Tuesday, April 15. In what proved to be a true Playoff game, the Cutthroats scored 14 minutes into the sudden death overtime period to seal a 5-4 victory over the Oilers.

Steve Kaunisto (Cam Reid, Vincent Arseneau) scored his first goal in the Playoff series to give the Denver Cutthroats a 1-0 lead with 1:50 remaining in the opening period.

The Cutthroats battled hard in the second period to hold the lead over the Oilers. Cam Reid (Dan Barczuk, Kyle Fletcher) found the back of Tulsa's net for his first goal of the Playoffs and Denver's second goal in the game. Teammate Troy Schwab (A.J. Gale) lit up the red light for the Cutthroats third consecutive goal. Ben Gordon (Drew Fisher, Ryan Menei) fired a shot past Denver's netminder John Griggs to get Tulsa on the board for the first time in the night. Todd Robinson (Scott Macaulay, Fisher) cut the deficit to one with the Oilers second goal.

In a nail-biting third frame, the Tulsa Oilers tied the score at four to take Game 6 into sudden death overtime. A.J. Gale (Schwab) broke the crease to extend the Cutthroats lead 4-2 over the Oilers. Adam Pleskach (Gordon, Menei) responded for Tulsa's third goal with a shot through the five-hole. A goal by Scott Macaulay (Pleskach, Menei) tied the score at four with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation to send the game into sudden death overtime.

Garett Bembridge (Lee Moffie, Gale) scored the game-winning goal at the 14:15 mark in the sudden death overtime to defeat the Tulsa Oilers 5-4 in Game 6 of the opening round. The Denver Cutthroats will advance to the second round of the 2014 Playoffs. The Cutthroats opponent and game dates have yet to be announced. For the latest information, visit DenverCutthroats.com.
