(Uptown Charlotte, NC) - Catawba College product Jerry Sands homered twice and added four RBIs as the Durham Bulls beat the Charlotte Knights by a score of 9-2 on Tuesday in the finale of their two-game series from BB&T Ballpark in front of 8,671 fans. The Knights celebrated Jackie Robinson Day at the ballpark and all Knights players wore #42 on the backs of their jerseys. Former Negro League player Eddie G.G. Burton was also honored before the game.

Sands finished the night 2-for-4 at the plate, while Mikie Mahtook went 4-for-5 for Durham and finished a home run short of the cycle. Mahtook was 5-for-5 on Monday and overall went a combined 11-for-11 before an eighth-inning strikeout ended his perfect streak.

Durham starter Enny Romero (2-1, 3.07), the originally scheduled probable pitcher for Monday's game before being scratched for RHP Juan Sandoval, earned the win after allowing one run on four hits over five innings.

Charlotte starter Eric Surkamp (0-2, 7.07) allowed seven runs on nine hits over four innings and was saddled with the loss.

Alex Liddi homered in the sixth inning for Charlotte off Durham reliever Matt Andriese. It was Liddi's first home run of the season. Charlotte had just five hits, while Durham had 16.

The Knights will open a three-game series with the Gwinnett Braves on Wednesday from BB&T Ballpark. RHP Dylan Axelrod (1-0, 3.60) gets the start for the Knights, while the G-Braves will hand the ball to LHP Daniel Rodriguez (1-1, 2.70).
