Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (APRIL 15, 2014) - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, riding a seven-game winning streak, returned back home to TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark on Monday evening, only to be washed out. Trailing 4-3 after two innings, the game way delayed, and later suspended due to heavy rains. The two teams will play a double-header on Wednesday, completing game one where it left off and following with a seven-inning contest.

Both teams traded zeros in the first inning in their first scheduled meeting of the season. Pelicans' starter Cody Buckel walked two in the first but escaped with the help of his catcher Jorge Alfaro. Randolph Oduber was caught stealing and Khayyan Norfork was picked off of third base.

The Nationals (6-5) loaded the bases with nobody out to begin the second. A double and two walks set the table for the bottom of the Potomac lineup. Buckel fanned Justin Miller, but hit Pedro Severino to bring home the game's first run. Stephen Perez followed with a two-run double to extend the lead to 3-0, and, after the Pelicans got the second out of the inning, Norfork added another with an RBI single. Buckel exited, allowing four runs in 1.2 innings on three hits, two walks and a hit batter. Reliever Sam Stafford stranded the two inherited runners with a ground out to end the inning.

Myrtle Beach (7-4), who erased two deficits on Monday, nearly came all the way back in the next half inning. After a Hanser Alberto bunt single, Royce Bolinger smashed his first home run, deep to left field, to cut the hole to 4-2. After a pair of groundouts, Odubel Herrera singled and, with the rain beginning to fall, Chris Garia tripled him home. Joey Gallo grounded out to end the inning, but the Birds trailed by just one run.

That was the final batter of the contest on Monday evening. After an hour-plus delay, the game was suspended. The two teams will finish up tonight's contest, beginning in the top of the third inning. Thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one, the two teams will play the regularly scheduled game, but it will be a seven-inning affair.

Fans with tickets to tonight's game can exchange those tickets for a ticket of equal or lesser value to any future Pelicans regular season game during the 2014 regular season or beyond, subject to availability. Tickets to Wednesday's regularly scheduled 7:05 contest will be good for both games of the doubleheader.

Season Seats, Mini Plans, Flex Books, and single game tickets are still available to see the Pelicans in 2014.
