Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - Behind Chris Beck's 7-inning complete game shutout, the Barons defeated the Mobile BayBears 2-0 in game one of their Tuesday double-headeragainst the Mobile BayBears at Hank Aaron Stadium.

The Barons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first as Trayce Thompson extended his Southern League-best hitting streak to 10 games with a single and scored on a two-out double by Kevan Smith. Smith would score a batter later when a ground ball off the bat of Rangel Ravelo was misplayed by third baseman Jake Lamb, allowing Smith to score of second.

The two runs would be all Beck (2-1, 4.24) needed as he baffled theBayBears over 7.0 dominant innings, allowing just three hits and striking out two without issuing a walk.

Beck was instrumental in the Barons run to the Southern League championship in 2013, picking up the game 2 win in Mobile after allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits over 6.0 IP.

White Sox INF Gordon Beckham started at second base for the first time during his rehab stint with the Barons and finished 0-for-4.

The win was the 4th in a row for the Barons who improved to 6-5 on the season while the loss dropped Mobile to 6-5. Game two of the double header was scheduled to start 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The Barons will send RHP David Cales (0-0, 2.25) to the hill against RHP BradinHagens (0-1, 0.00).
