Series Preview: Bees Take on Rainiers in a Four-Game Set

The Salt Lake Bees will begin their fourth four-game series of the season against the Tacoma Rainers. The Bees were swept by the Sacramento River Cats taking the Bees' record to four wins and eight losses on the season. They will also look to break up their six-game losing streak.
Tacoma won its last three games while winning their series with Albuquerque taking their record to 5-5. The Rainiers have had two games postponed due to weather.
The opening pitching match up will be Salt Lake's RHP Joe Martinez (0-1, 18.00) against Tacoma's RHP Taijuan Walker, is currently rehabbing with Tacoma. Walker played in three games for the Seattle Mariners last season. Martinez will be looking to improve on his last two outings earning a loss and a no decision. Martinez has won two of the four games he pitched against the Rainiers when he was a member of the Reno Aces in 2012.
The Bees will look for Matt Shoemaker, Dane De La Rosa and Nick Maronde to make an impact for the pitching staff. The three players were optioned to the Bees from the Angels on Sunday. The Bees lost RHP Yoslan Herrera and LHP Jose Alvarez when the Angels optioned to bring the players up.
C.J. Cron and Grant Green will look to continue their hot starts to the season. Cron leads the PCL with nine extra base hits, seven doubles, has the third most total bases and is fourth in the PCL in RBIs. Cron has also hit two home runs which include a walk-off and a grand slam. Green has successfully reached base with a hit in 11 games played.
The Bees and the Rainiers will play 12 more times after this first four-game series. The Bees will play the next four-game series in Tacoma in May and the Rainiers will play two four-game series in Salt Lake in July to close the season series between the two teams. Last season the Bees won nine of the 16 games played to win the season series between the teams.
This will be the first season since 2002 that Tacoma and Salt Lake will not be competing for a division title. The PCL realigned its divisions when El Paso's entrance. Salt Lake was moved from the North division to the South.
The Bees will return to Smith's Ballpark on April 19 to start a four-game series with Albuquerque before going back on the road for the next eight games. April 19 will also feature a 20th Anniversary Poster which will be handed out at the gates.
