April 15, 2014 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release

CHICAGO (April 15, 2014) - Western New York Flash forward Vicky Losada was voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 1 of the 2014 NWSL season.

Losada, 23, scored two goals and added an assist in a 3-1 road victory for the Flash over the Washington Spirit on Sunday afternoon at Maureen Hendricks Field at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md.

The Terrassa, Spain native scored the Flash's first goal of the match in the 15th minute - powering a shot from 30-yards out past Spirit goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris.

The FC Barcelona forward sent a set piece cross into the box for a sliding Brittany Taylor to slam into the back of the net giving the Flash a 2-1 advantage.

Losada finished off her exciting debut in the 67th minute, registering her second goal of the match. Making a run into the box, fellow Spaniard Adriana Martin found Losada open for an easy finish past Harris.

Losada is the third Flash player to be honored as the NWSL Player of the Week after midfielder Carli Lloyd claimed the award in Week 12 and forward Abby Wambach earned the selection in Week 5 and Week 9 during the 2013 NWSL season.

The Western New York Flash will return to action Saturday, April 19 at 6:45 p.m. ET against the Chicago Red Stars as part of a doubleheader with the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer (MLS) at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
