Doubleheader Featured in Calgary Midget Football Game of the Week
April 15, 2014 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Calgary Stampeders News Release
As part of their commitment to support grassroots football, the Calgary Stampeders are proud to present the Calgary Area Midget Football Association Game of the Week.
This week, the Game of the Week is actually a couple of games with a doubleheader scheduled for Stampeder Field at Shouldice Park on Thursday, Apr. 17.
In the kickoff contest, the Mavericks face the Broncos in a 6:30 p.m. start. The Mavericks opened the season with a 38-21 decision over the Northern Raiders followed by a loss to the Cowboys while the Broncos are 0-2 and hungry for their first win of the season.
The Mavericks are led offensively by Avery McCuaig and Kaedon Armstrong and hope to get Colton Hunchak, who did not play in their latest game, back in the lineup.
The Cowboys will face their neighbouring rivals the Hilltoppers in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader, with kickoff at 8:30 p.m. The Hilltoppers (0-2) look to ride running back Miles Brown and their stingy defence to their first win of the season. The North Division-leading Cowboys (2-0) are led by quarterback Connly McQuaig and receiver Brett Ellerman on offence and by linebacker on Joe Dutton on defence.
Through this new initiative, the Stampeders will be promoting a CAMFA game every week. Each team in the league will be featured at least once as part of the Game of the Week series.
