Green Bay Blizzard Promote Tommie Williams to Head Coach

Green Bay, WI -Green Bay Blizzard Head Coach Chad Baldwin was dismissed today by Blizzard ownership. Offensive Coordinator Tommie Williams was named Head Coach for the remainder of the 2014 season.

"Unfortunately at this time we felt it was necessary to make a coaching change," said Blizzard Co-Owners Larry and Kathy Treankler. "We wish Chad well in his future endeavors and we are excited to promote Tommie Williams to lead our team for the balance of the 2014 season. We feel our fans will be excited to see the changes on the field as we move forward."

"We have a proud tradition of winning as the team made the playoffs eight years in a row and we have to re-establish that and to keep the status quo is totally unacceptable. Whether we made the right or wrong decision does not matter, you have to make a decision to move forward in a positive manner," said Blizzard Co-Owner and COO Art Clarkson.

Tommie Williams is in his third season with the Green Bay Blizzard after serving as Offensive Coordinator in 2011 and 2014 while serving as Wide Reciever Coach in 2013. In addition, he joins the team with previous head coaching experience with the Omaha Beef. Under his assistance in 2011 the Blizzard won a divisional title and advanced to the United Conference Championship game. His offense finished third in the IFL that season averaging 54.6 points per game.

"I am very excited to be given this opportunity by the Blizzard front office. I just want to win and give fans an exciting game. I look forward to the challenge of being able to do so," said Williams.

Joining Williams on the coaching staff will be Defensive Coordinator James Kerwin, Corey Roberson and Scott Hamilton. Kerwin spent six years with the Omaha Beef and as Head Coach led the team to a Divisional Championship. Returning to the Blizzard will be Corey Roberson and Scott Hamilton. Roberson was Special Teams Coordinator in 2013 while Hamilton also worked with the special teams.

Chad Baldwin took over for former Blizzard Head Coach Robert Fuller in 2013 and immediately won his first three games however Baldwin started the 2014 season 0-6 and finishes his Blizzard career with a record of 3-11.

Prior to becoming Head Coach, Baldwin served as Blizzard defensive coordinator in 2012 and his unit finished best in the league in yards allowed with 206.6 and second in points allowed per game with 41.9.

The Blizzard return home to Aurora BayCare Field at the Resch Center to play the Tri-Cities Fever on April 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM. April 19 will be Youth Receiver Glove Night and Giant Team Poster Night. The first 600 youth 10 and under will receive a free pair of youth receiver gloves and every youth 14 and under will receive a giant team poster.
