NASL International Spotlight Week 1

April 14, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL) News Release


NEW YORK (April 14, 2014) - A goal by Norwegian forward Mads Stokkelien and a goal and assist from Spanish defender Ayoze helped the New York Cosmos to a 4-0 victory over the visiting Atlanta Silverbacks among the NASL international player highlights this past weekend.

With their home team already up 1-0, the crowd of 7,906 saw Ayoze score in the 32nd minute and then assist on the Cosmos' third tally six minutes before halftime on Sunday.

Stokkelien scored the Cosmos' fourth goal, his first since joining the NASL, in the 72nd minute off an assist from Uruguayan midfielder Sebástian Guenzatti and extend the team's unbeaten streak to 12 games.

On Saturday, Brazilian defender Rafael Alves scored the first goal for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, while German goalkeeper Oka Nikolov earned the shutout in the 2-0 win over Ottawa Fury FC.

Elsewhere, South African midfielder Ty Shipalane stunned a sold out crowd of 11,048 at Carroll Stadium as he assisted on the equalizinging goal for the visiting Carolina RailHawks as they earned a 1-1 draw against Indy Eleven. English forward Tomi Ameobi also surprised the home fans of the Tampa Bay Rowdies as he notched the equalizer for FC Edmonton in the closing minutes of a 1-1 draw.

Strikers

Goalkeeper - Oka Nikolov (Germany) made four key saves to earn first shutout victory.

Defenders - Rafael Alves (Brazil) scored the first goal before subbing out at halftime, while Ivan Guerrero (Honduras) earned another full 90.

Midfielders - Mark Anderson (England) assist on the club's first goal, while Chris Nurse (Guyana) saw action the whole match.

Forwards - Martin Nuñez (Uruguay) add another game under his belt, while Marius Ebbers (Germany) earned 80 minutes on the field before being substituted by Yaikel Pérez (Cuba).

Coach - Gunter Kronsteinter (Austria) earned his first victory of the season

Fury FC

Defenders - Omar Jarun (Palestine) and Maykon (Brazil) both earned a full 90 on the field.

Midfielders - Richie Ryan (Ireland) and Sinisa Ubiparipovic (Bosnia & Herzegovina) played the entire match, while Nicki Paterson (Scotland) was six minutes shy of a full game before being replaced by Ramon Soria (Spain).

Forwards - Oliver Minatel (Brazil) also played the whole game, while Vini Dantas (Brazil) saw action in 65 minutes before subbing out.

Goalkeeper - Kristian Nicht (Germany) saw action the entire match

Defenders - Jaime Frias (Mexico) and Erick Norales (Honduras) earned a full 90 under their belts.

Midfielders - Kléberson (Brazil) and Walter Ramirez (Honduras) also played the whole game, while

Corby Moore (England) saw action in 84 minutes before being substituted.

Forward - Pedro Mendes (Brazil) came in off the back in the 67th minute.

RailHawks

Midfielders - Ty Shipalane (South Africa) assisted on the team's tying goal, while Jun Marques Davidson (Japan) also played the entire match. Enzo Martinez (Uruguay) was three minutes shy of complete game before subbing out, while Cesar Elizondo (Costa Rica) saw action in 67 minutes before being replaced. Nick Millington (Guyana) came off the bench and played the final 10 minutes.

Coach - Colin Clarke (Northern Ireland) extended his overall unbeaten streak to four NASL matches going back to Fall 2013.

Tampa Bay Rowdies 1 FC Edmonton 1 at Al Lang Stadium

Rowdies

Defenders- JP Rodrigues (Guyana) and Takuya Yamada (Japan) both earned a full 90.

Midfielder - Darel Russell (England) created the club's opening goal during his time on the field, while Shane Hill (England) and Evans Frimpong (Ghana) also played the whole match.

Forwards - Georgi Hristov (Bulgaria) saw action the entire game, while Lucky Mkosana (Zimbabwe) came in off the bench in the 71st minute.

Coach - Ricky Hill (England) ends two-game NASL losing streak going back to Fall 2013.

FC Edmonton

Defenders - Lance Laing (Jamaica) and Albert Watson (Northern Ireland) earned another full 90 under their belts, while Kareem Moses (Trinidad & Tobago) also played the entire match but had the misfortunate of scoring and own goal.

Midfielders - Ritchie Jones (England) played the whole game, while Horace James (Jamaica) saw action in 74 minutes before being substituted by Tomi Ameobi (England) who scored the tying goal for the club.

Forward - Daryl Fordyce (Northern Ireland) earned 90 minutes of the field and had his penalty kick saved.

San Antonio Scorpions 0 Minnesota United FC 2 at Toyota Field

Scorpions

Midfielders - Stephen DeRoux (Jamaica) and Richard Menjivar (El Salvador) earned a full 90.

Forwards - Danny Barrera (Colombia) also played the entire game, while Tomasz Zahorski (Poland) saw action in 59 minutes before being replaced by Eric Hassli (France). Sainey Touray (Gambia) and Jonathan Faña (Dominican Republic) both came off the bench in the 54th and 76th minutes, respectively.

United

Defenders - Cristiano Dias (Brazil) and Tiago Calvano (Brazil) both played the whole game.

Midfielders - Omar Daley (Jamaica) also saw action the entire match, while Juliano Vicentini (Brazil) was seven minutes shy of the full 90 before being subbed out.

Forward - Simone Bracalello (Italy) came in off the bench for the final minute of the match.

Sunday, April 12

Cosmos

Defenders - Ayoze (Spain) scored a goal and added an assist during his 90 minutes on the field, while Rovérsio (Brazil) also saw action the entire match.

Midfielders - Sebástian Guenzatti (Uruguay) assisted on the team's fourth goal before being replaced by Joseph Nane (Cameroon) in the 74th minute, while Marcos Senna (Spain) played the whole game.

Forwards - Mads Stokkelien (Norway) scored the club's fourth goal during his 90 minutes of action, while Diomar DÃ-az (Venezuela) was two minutes shy of a complete game before being substituted. Alessandro Noselli (Italy) saw action in 64 minutes before being replaced.

Coach - Giovanni Savarese's (Venezuela) team remains unbeaten in its last 12 games.

Silverbacks

Goalkeeper - Derby Carrillo (El Salvador) had six saves in the loss.

Midfielders - Junior Sandoval (Honduras) saw action for 63 minutes before being substituted, while Junior Burgos (El Salvador) came in off the bench for the last 16 minutes of the match.

Forwards - Deon McCaulay (Belize), Lucas Paulini (Argentina) and Kwadwo Poku (Ghana) all played the entire game.
