Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (April 13, 2014) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers lost to the Springfield Falcons Sunday evening, falling by a final score of 2-1. The game was tied for nearly the entire third period, but a Sean Collins goal with 5.4 seconds to play in regulation gave Springfield the victory. The lone Sound Tigers goal was scored by Justin Hickman in what was his first career professional goal. Kevin Poulin was a standout in goal for the Sound Tigers and made 37 saves, some of them dazzling stops.
Hickman scored his goal less than five minutes into the game. Ryan Walters dropped a pass in the slot to the former Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL) captain. Hickman snapped a wrist shot past Falcons goaltender Anton Forsberg and gave the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead at the 4:43 mark of the first period.
The Sound Tigers held the 1-0 lead until late in the second period, when the Falcons cashed in on their first power play of the contest. Carter Camper had the puck along the left-wing boards and threw a centering pass out in front. Ryan Craig was waiting at the top of the crease and redirected the puck past Poulin to tie the score at one.
It remained a tie game through the second period and much of the third, until the Falcons went back to the power play late. After a great Sound Tigers shift, Hickman caught Craig with a high stick at, which drew blood and a double-minor penalty on Hickman at 16:18 of the third. The Sound Tigers nearly killed it off, but with less than 10 seconds to play in regulation, Patrick McNeil took a shot from center point that Collins deflected past Poulin to give the Falcons the victory.
The Sound Tigers play their final home contest of the season Monday at 7 p.m. against the Adirondack Phantoms, a make-up of Saturday's postponed game. Fans with tickets from Saturday's game can use that exact ticket for entry to Monday's game.
