Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Nashville, TN - Pete Orr had three hits, drove in three runs and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle in Nashville's 5-3 victory over Omaha Sunday afternoon in the third of four meetings at Greer Stadium. The Storm Chasers have dropped the last two games to fall to 5-6 overall and 3-4 against the Sounds.
Orr got the scoring started with an RBI double in the second inning that staked the hosts to the lead they never lost. Nashville stranded a runner at third base in the third but cashed in on a bases loaded, nobody out situation in the next frame with a two-run double from Jeremy Hermida that put runners at second and third base. However, Omaha starter P.J. Walters was able to escape further damage by striking out the next three hitters.
The lead grew to 5-0 in the fifth when Orr belted a two-run home run, his first of the year. Walters absorbed the loss after yielding those five runs on nine hits while walking one and fanning five over 4 2/3 frames. Ramon Troncoso tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief and gave the Storm Chasers a chance to mount a rally against the Nashville bullpen.
Meanwhile, Nashville starter Mike Fiers tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings to grab the win after allowing five hits, walking one and striking out five. Michael Blazek came on to record the last out in the seventh before the Chasers opened the eighth by stringing together three straight singles, the last of which by Christian Colon plated Brian Bocock with the visitors first run. Matt Fields then doubled with two outs to drive in a run to make it 5-2, chase Blazek from the hill and extend his hitting streak to 11 games, matching a career-high. Paulo Orlando greeted Alfredo Figaro with a base hit that chased home Colon to account for the final margin before Donovan Hand worked a scoreless ninth to sew up the win for the Sounds and earn his second save in as many days.
The series wraps up Monday night with Omaha sending right-hander Aaron Brooks to the mound against Nashville right-hander Johnny Hellweg, one of the top Milwaukee pitching prospects. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zonet2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchaserse.com.
