Brevard County Manatees News Release

DUNEDIN, Fla. - Brevard County Manatees starting pitcher Hobbs Johnson allowed two-run homers in back-to-back innings to the Dunedin Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon, en route to a 6-2 loss at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.

Brevard County (6-4) entered the third inning with a 2-1 lead, but that is when the long ball bit the 'Tees. K.C. Hobson drilled a two-run shot over the right field wall to put Dunedin (8-2) on top.

The following inning, Kevin Patterson duplicated Hobson's feat. The left-handed hitter sent a Johnson (1-1, 4.91) offering over the right-center field wall to give the Jays a 5-2 advantage.

In all, Johnson allowed six runs on eight hits in five innings of work, while walking two and striking out three. Martin Viramontes relieved Johnson and went the rest of the way as he threw three scoreless innings.

The 'Tees scored early, but their bats cooled off quickly. Parker Berberet opened the scoring in the second with a sacrifice fly to score Yadiel Rivera. The next inning, Victor Roache singled through the left side to bring Orlando Arcia home.

Dunedin's bullpen kept the Manatees quiet in the latter stages of the game. Justin Jackson earned his first win of the season in relief. Jackson pitched 3.2 scoreless innings and did not allow a hit, while walking two men and striking out four. Chad Girodo surrendered no runs and no hits over the final three frames to pick up his first save of 2014.

With the win, the Blue Jays took two out of three games from Brevard County. The Manatees now head home for a six-game homestand, beginning on Monday night against the Lakeland Flying Tigers (7-3).

Brevard County is scheduled to throw Tyler Wagner (2-0, 0.87) against Lakeland's Edgar De La Rosa (0-2, 2.00). First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. at Space Coast Stadium.
