Omaha Storm Chasers April 13th Game Notes

April 13, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

LAST NIGHT'S LOSS: A quartet of Nashville pitchers kept the league's top hitting team in check in a 5-2 decision over Omaha Saturday night in the second of four meetings at Greer Stadium. The Storm Chasers dipped to 5-5 on the season and 3-3 against the Sounds, with all six games decided by three runs or less. Omaha starter Brett Tomko worked five innings during which he gave up three runs on seven hits while walking one and suffered the loss.

NO K?: The Storm Chasers did not strike out a single batter in last night's game, the first time they have failed to record a punchout in a 9-inning game in their history as the Storm Chasers, and the first time since since August 7, 2010 at Rosenblatt Stadium against the Portland Beavers. The Storm Chasers have recorded 0 strikeouts once as the Storm Chasers in a 7-inning game, which was on June 22, 2011 at Greer Stadium vs the Nashville Sounds.

HAVING A FIELDS DAY: Matt Fields is currently tied for the Pacific Coast League lead with 17 hits with Grant Green of Salt Lake. Fields has hit safely in all ten games this season, one of only three players in the PCL who can make that claim (Justin Bour of New Orleans and Grant Green of Salt Lake are the others). Fields longest hitting streak last season with Northwest Arkansas was nine games from 6/21/13 to 7/3/2013, while he has had three career hitting streaks of 10 games or more: 10 games with the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Single-A) from 7/21/12- 7/31/12, 11 games with Vero Beach Devil Rays (Single-A) from 4/12/08-4/23/08 and 10 games with Hudson Valley Renegades (Short Season-A) from 7/29/06-8/7/06).

FLETCH: Brian Fletcher has recorded a RBI in each of his last six games, tied for the longest streak of RBI games in his career. Fletcher had a RBI streak of six games with the Wilmington Blue Rocks from 4/21/12 - 4/26/12 (which were all one RBI games too). The only players in the PCL with more games with at least one RBI than Fletcher is Justin Bour of New Orleans and C.J. Cron of Salt Lake, who have both totaled seven games with at least one RBI this season.

SACRIFICE YOURSELF: The Storm Chasers are currently the only team in the entire Minor Leagues without a sacrifice fly or sacrifice hit this season. As far back as 2005 (when team game-by- game stats are available), Omaha has never gone this long in to a season without either a sac fly or hit.

VERY, VERY SNEAKY: The Chasers do not have a stolen base leader ranking in the top five in the league, but do have the second most steals in the Pacific Coast League at 10 trailing only Fresno's total of 13. Omaha has ranked in the top four in the PCL in each of the last three seasons (4th in 2013 at 125, 3rd in 2012 at 124, 2nd in 2011 at 152) but have only had one player to rank in the top five in steals in any of those three seasons (Jarrod Dyson ranked 3rd in 2011 at 38).
