Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Carlos Paulino picked a prime opportunity to notch his first multi-hit game of the season, knocking a ninth-inning single before seeing his pinch runner score two batters later on an RBI base hit from Chris Dickerson to send the Indianapolis Indians (7-1) to a 4-3 walkoff win over the Toledo Mud Hens (2-5) on Thursday's home opener at Victory Field. A throng of 14,004 fans packed the ballpark to witness the late-inning heroics, a total that exceeded Opening Night during the 2013 record-setting campaign.

After seeing its potential winning run thrown out at the plate in the bottom of the eighth, the Indians came back with a vengeance in the ninth, immediately putting the winning run aboard on Paulino's second knock of the evening. Blake Davis then rolled a textbook sacrifice bunt down the third-base line to advance the runner a bag, and after Paulino was replaced by Adalberto Santos, Dickerson plated the game-winning run from second with his RBI single to center.

The game remained a tightly-contested affair throughout the evening largely thanks to starter Brandon Cumpton, who spun his second quality start in as many games. The righty held the 'Hens to just three runs in 6.0 IP with two walks and five strikeouts. LHP Daniel Sclereth earned the win with three K's in 1.1 scoreless frames.
