Playoff Hopes Dashed, Philadelphia Wings Drop Nail-Biter In Toronto

Toronto, ON - Dropping a crucial must-win game to the Toronto Rock, the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) fell on the road. With the 10-9 loss to Toronto, the Wings lost the season series (Toronto wins 2-1) and were eliminated from qualifying for the 2014 NLL Playoffs.

Philadelphia opened the game ready to play for their playoff lives. Forward Kevin Crowley tallied the Wings' first two goals of the night in the initial third of the first quarter. Forwards Pat Saunders, Garrett Thul and Jordan Hall also had goals to give the Wings a 5-4 lead after the opening frame. Hall recorded his 400th career point.

Defender Stephen Hoar had his first goal of the season and first as a member of the Wings to kick off the second quarter. Toronto went on a three-goal scoring run to reclaim the lead late in the second. Forward Jordan Hall added his second goal of the night to tie the game before halftime.

The third quarter turned into a defensive stand for both teams. Each team was held to one goal. Forward Kevin Crowley recorded a hat trick and his ninth multi-goal game of the year. The game sat tied 8-8 heading to the final 15 minutes.

Toronto rallied in the final stanza to claim the final playoff spot in the NLL East Division. The Rock held Philadelphia to a single score and recorded two goals of their own. Wings Forward Kevin Crowley hit his milestone 100th career goal (fourth of the evening) late in the quarter. Philadelphia was not able to amount a comeback.

Forwards Kevin Crowley and Jordan Hall paced the Wings on offense. Combined, they amassed 11 of the team's 24 points. Both recorded personal milestones on the evening. Crowley earned the second star of the night for top performers.

Toronto was led by Forward Rob Hellyer who tallied eight points (three goals, five assists) on the night to lead all runners. Goalie Brandon Miller stifled his former squad late in the game to earn the victory. Hellyer earned the first star and Miller earned the third star for top performers of the game.

The Wings make their furthest trek of the season out west to face the Vancouver Stealth for the final matchup in their regular season series (Wings currently lead 1-0) at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, BC on Saturday, April 19 at 10 p.m. Philadelphia hosts the Colorado Mammoth for their regular season finale on Friday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Center.
