Tacoma Rainiers News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Ji-Man Choi homered and Chris Taylor turned in three hits as the Tacoma Rainiers fell to the Albuquerque Isotopes 6-2 at Isotopes Park on Friday night.
Choi provided the Rainiers an early 1-0 lead after belting a solo home run to left field in the second inning. The homer was Choi's first of the season and third of his Triple-A career.
After Nick Buss scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second, Tacoma pulled ahead again in the top of the seventh. Catcher Jesus Sucre lined a one-out single to left field that plated the first baseman Choi and gave the Rainiers a 2-1 edge.
The score held until Albuquerque posted five runs on three hits in the eighth. Clint Robinson scored the tying run and Miguel Olivo accounted for the go-ahead RBI after each drew bases-loaded walks with one out. The outfielder Buss added some insurance with a bases-clearing triple one at-bat later.
Second baseman Chris Taylor's three-hit night led a Rainiers lineup that combined to collect 10 hits on Friday. Taylor fell one home run short of the cycle after going 3-for-4 with a single, a double and a triple - his first multi-hit game with the Rainiers. Choi added a single to go along with a second-inning home run and ended the night going 2-for-4.
Right-handed reliever Jonathan Arias (0-1) was dealt the loss after surrendering three of the Isotopes five runs in the eighth inning. In his second start this season, left-hander Anthony Fernandez surrendered one run on four hits and struck out eight in six innings.
The Rainiers (2-5) play the second of the team's four-game series at Albuquerque (5-3) beginning at 6:05 p.m. tomorrow, April 12. Right-hander Chance Ruffin (0-1, 14.41) is slated to make his second turn in Tacoma's rotation against Isotopes right-hander Henry Sosa (1-0, 1.50).
