Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (32-26-7-5) were shutout for the first time at home this season by the Alaska Aces (45-18-3-4), 5-0, on Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center. With their win tonight the Aces clinched their fifth Brabham Cup in team history.
Aces forward Peter Sivak found the back of the net first as he chipped the puck over Eagles netminder Dustin Butler 13:48 into the first frame to give Alaska the 1-0 lead. With less than three minutes left in the first period Alaska defenseman John Ramage beat Butler top-shelf to extend the Aces lead to 2-0. Just over two minutes later Aces forward Turner Elson scored on a short-handed breakaway to put Alaska up 3-0 heading into the first intermission.
Five minutes and thirty-nine seconds into the second period, Alaska forward Evan Trupp netted a five-hole goal to pump the Aces lead, 4-0. Alaska forward Brendan Connolly netted the Aces fifth goal of the night from a rebound off of Butler's leg pad with 5:50 left in the second. As the Aces took the 5-0 lead Colorado opted to put in amateur goaltender Eric Williams.
The third period saw no more scoring as Williams turned aside all ten shots he faced in his professional debut. However, the Eagles could not come back from the 5-0 deficit and the Aces came away with the victory.
The Eagles will close out the regular season on Saturday night with Fan Appreciation Night in the final game against Alaska at the Budweiser Events Center beginning at 7:05 pm.
