April 11, 2014 - California League (CalL1)
Modesto Nuts News Release

Sean Dwyer delivered the walk-off RBI single to give the Nuts a 6-5 win over the Quakes in their home opener at John Thurman Field in front of a sellout crowd of 4,164.

In the ninth inning, with the Nuts (1-7) down by a run, the first two hitters were retired quickly before Wilson Soriano fisted an opposite-field single to keep the inning alive. Trevor Story followed with a walk against Quakes' (3-5) reliever Luis Meza (L, 0-1). The first pitch to the next batter, Rosell Herrera, was hit hard to first baseman Chris Jacobs who let the ball sneak between his legs allowing Soriano to score and tie the game. Dwyer followed by drilling the first pitch to centerfield, plating Story, and giving the Nuts their first win of the year.

Will Swanner smashed a two-run shot in the sixth inning against Quakes' starter Lindsey Caughel to bring the Nuts to within one run. Caughel was in line for the win prior to the ninth inning fireworks after tossing seven innings allowing four runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out three.

In his lone inning of work, Nuts' reliever Rayan Gonzalez (W, 1-0) worked out of a jam in the ninth frame after giving up a pair of singles to begin the frame keeping the Nuts within one heading to the ninth-inning fireworks.

Andrew Brown did not give up a hit until the fourth inning in his second start of the year for the Nuts. Brown worked five full innings, but could not get an out in the sixth after giving up back-to-back doubles to start the frame.

The Modesto Nuts are back in action at John Thurman Field on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. in the second game of the four-game series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Lefty Jayson Aquino will toss for the Nuts. Southpaw Tom Windle will be on the mound for the Quakes. Coverage of Friday night's ball game will begin at 7:00 p.m. on ModestoNuts.com
