Aces Ride Jacobs' 3-Run Blast to Win
April 11, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
Reno, Nev.- The Aces' season-opening, eight-game homestand came to an end with a positive result; a 5-4 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes to improve to 4-4 on the young season.
The offense started early as Ender Inciarte singled to get it rolling in the first. After Inciarte swiped second and moved to third on a groundout, Cody Ross knocked him in with a bounce out to short.
It was in the third inning when Mike Jacobs delivered a huge blow to the 'Topes. The first baseman hit the first pitch he saw from Matt Magill over the 424-foot mark in right-center for a three-run home run to give Reno a 4-0 lead. The blast extended Jacobs' hitting streak to a team-high seven games.
Albuquerque scored single tallies in the fourth and sixth innings, but a sacrifice fly from Andy Marte in the seventh gave the Aces a 5-2 cushion.
Charles Brewer started for Reno and worked six effective innings. The right-hander allowed two runs on six hits while collecting four strikeouts. His strikeout of Matt Magill in the third inning was number 500 in his MiLB career.
Relievers Jess Todd, Kevin Munson and Joe Paterson combined to put two zeroes on the scoreboard in the seventh and eighth.
Nick Buss and Trayvon Robinson started the ninth with back-to-back singles to bring the tying run to the plate for Albuquerque. Zeke Spruill retired Griff Erickson on a soft fly out but then allowed back-to-back run-scoring singles to Miguel Rojas and Walter Ibarra.
Spruill got Carlos Triunfel to fly out to center for the second out, then was lifted by Phil Nevin in favor of lefty Eury Da La Rosa. Facing Joc Pederson, a top prospect in the Dodgers organization, De La Rosa got Pederson to fly out to the warning track in right-center for the final out.
The Aces head to Tucson for a four-game series with the El Paso Chihuahuas set to begin Friday night. Reno sends right-hander Archie Bradley (1-0, 0.00) to the mound against El Paso lefty Jason Lane (1-0, 0.00). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. PST.
