Round Rock Tops the Sky Sox, 7-1
April 9, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The Round Rock Express road seven solid innings from starter Nick Tepesch (2-0) and a five-run third inning to power past the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 7-1 on Wednesday evening at the Dell Diamond.
Tepesch picked up his second win of the season in as many starts by keeping the Sox off balance most of the night. He worked seven strong innings and gave up just one run on five hits while striking out five and walking three. The lone run he surrendered came on a sac fly by Ryan Wheeler in the fourth.
At the plate, Round Rock exploded for five runs in the third inning as they sent 10 men to the plate in the frame against Sox starter Christian Friedrich (0-1). Adam Rosales led off the inning with a solo homer, his first of the season, and ended the frame with a strike out but not before the Express plated four more runs in between. Round Rock took advantage of a pair of walks and a hit batter by Friedrich with RBI hits coming from Brad Snyder and Jared Hoying. They tacked on single tallies in the fourth and seventh innings on solo home runs by Bryan Petersen, his third, and Brad Snyder, his second.
Aaron Poreda and Neftali Feliz each recorded 1-2-3 innings in the eighth and ninth to finish of the game for Round Rock.
For the Sky Sox, second baseman Neftali Ynoa went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored and outfielder Jason Pridie doubled in the game to extend his hitting-streak to a team-high six games. Outfielder Corey Dickerson, who was optioned down by the Rockies this week, made his first appearance for the Sky Sox as he started in center field and batted third in the lineup. He finished the night 1-for-4 with a single and three strikeouts.
The final game of the four-game series will be played tomorrow morning at 10:35 AM (MDT) with the Sky Sox looking to earn a series split and a winning road trip. RH Christian Bergman (1-0, 2,57) will take the hill for the Sky Sox with RH Scott Baker (1-0, 1.50) going for Round Rock.
