Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs got down early on Wednesday night in the middle game of their three game series with the Dayton Dragons, and fell by a 4-1 score. The loss drops the Chiefs to 3-3 on the season and evens up the series with the Dragons at a game apiece.

After going 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position Tuesday night, Dayton wouldn't let a second inning opportunity be wasted. They loaded the bases with no outs on a walk and consecutive singles, and Jeff Gelalich lined a two run single to right to give the Dragons an early 2-0 lead.

The Chiefs got their run in the third after CJ McElroy, Jr. had a bunt single, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild throw by the catcher. Mason Katz drove him in with a ground out to second base.

Dayton tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh. Arturo Reyes allowed a walk, wild pitch, and stolen base of third, with a strikeout mixed in. Sean Buckley lined an RBI single to center, and Reyes was lifted for Joe Scanio. He got the final two outs of the sixth and the first two outs of the seventh before a walk and double scored Dayton's fourth run.

Reyes (0-1) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He struck out four and walked three. Scanio worked the next 1 2/3 innings, giving up a run on a walk and two hits. Kyle Barraclough pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings with a walk and strikeout, and Blake McKnight recorded the final out, stranding runners at second and third.
