Power Play Dooms IceHogs in Milwaukee
April 8, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Milwaukee, Wis. -Down 2-0 midway through Tuesday's game to the Milwaukee Admirals, the Rockford IceHogs played nearly 12-straight minutes of power play hockey, but couldn't light the lamp.
That led to a 3-1 loss to the Ads, Rockford's team AHL record ninth straight on the road (0-7-1-1), keeping them in the ninth spot in the Western Conference and on the outside of the playoff picture looking in with five games to play.
Rockford would finish the night 0-6 on the power play while holding the Admirals to 1-5.
Milwaukee tallied the lone first period goal on Tuesday night to carry a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Francis Wathier found Mathieu Tousignant open in the Rockford slot and he waited out Jason LaBarbera and beat him for his seventh goal of the season at 18:04.
In the second period, Bryan Rodney waited out two sliding IceHogs, Terry Broadhurst and Mark McNeill, attempting to block a point shot and fired home his fifth goal of the season from between the face-off circles at 6:11 to make it 2-0.
After skating nearly 12-straight minutes with a power play overlapping into the third period, it took an even strength goal to get Rockford on the board. Rookie defenseman Stephen Johns picked up a Pat Mullane pass and his point shot was tipped by Mark McNeill and past Marek Mazanec at 3:04 of the third period.
Rockford failed to convert on their six power plays on Tuesday and it took Milwaukee three to notch their man advantage goal. Colton Sisson knocked in a cross ice feed from Taylor Beck to make it a 3-1 game at 13:46.
The IceHogs couldn't generate any more chances the rest of the way and dropped their ninth straight away from the Forest City dating back to Feb. 28.
Next Home Game: Friday, April 11 against the Milwaukee Admirals. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. as these two Midwest Division rivals meet got the last time at the BMO and last time on the regular season. Also, Goodwill will be collecting donations at Friday's game and every fan that donates will receive one (1) free voucher to Rockford's April 18th game.
