Conrad's Slam Lifts Chihuahuas over Tacoma 9-5

The El Paso Chihuahuas hit four home runs in their 9-5 win over the Tacoma Rainiers Monday at Cheney Stadium. Brooks Conrad hit the first grand slam in team history in the second inning and Kyle Blanks, Jeff Francoeur and Adam Moore all added solo home runs in the win. Chihuahuas' starter Branch Kloess pitched six innings, allowing three Tacoma runs, and got the win in his first start of the season.
Tacoma starter Chance Ruffin, the son of El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame member Bruce Ruffin, allowed eight runs, including six in the second inning. Tacoma chipped away at the Chihuahuas' nine-run lead by scoring three times in the sixth and two times in the seventh, but El Paso relievers Jorge Reyes and Blaine Boyer each pitched shutout innings to close the game.
Blanks, Conrad and Francoeur have two home runs each through the first five games of the season. The Chihuahuas nine-run outburst Monday ended a three-game stretch where El Paso combined to score a total of three runs.
