Arizona Sundogs News Release

Independence, Missouri - The Arizona Sundogs took game two against the Missouri Mavericks in a tough back and forth battle Sunday night at the Independence Event Center. Arizona beat Missouri with a final score of 4-3. The last time the Arizona Sundogs won a game in the playoffs was on April 2, 2011 against the very familiar Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.

Tonight proved to be a different game for the Arizona Sundogs coming out strong from the moment the puck hit the ice. Despite remaining scoreless through the first period, they showed great pressure. At the end of the first the Sundogs led shots on goal 13-6 and only one penalty was served after Shawn Limpright was given a two minute minor for boarding. Arizona successfully killed off their penalty holding the Mavericks off.

Early in the second period Mcilveen lit the lamp for Arizona registering a goal 1:39 into the frame with assist from Alex Tuckerman. Late in the second with just under three minutes remaining Arizona gave up a power play goal to Missouri after Kevin Baker was assessed a two minute hooking minor. Andrew Courtney picked up the goal from Mike Ramsey and Sebastien Thinel. With seconds remaining in the period the Sundogs hoped to pull ahead but their goal was waived off due to the net being off its moorings.

The Sundogs sealed their win over the Mavericks posting three goals in the final 20 minutes. Baker kicked off the final period only 1:19 in with assist from Brandon Coccimiglio. About five minutes later Missouri answered back equalizing the game yet again with a goal from Colt King. Limpright came in with the tie breaker making way for their short lived two goal lead with two minutes later Mcilveen scored his second goal of the night from Cameron and Mike Forney. Missouri didn't lay down so easy, battling till the end with their third goal this time from Tyler Currier.

Andrew Engelage was awarded the win for the Sundogs making 27 saves with 30 shots on net. The Sundogs outshot the Mavericks 42-30. Arizona was 0-1 on the power play and Missouri was 1-3. The Sundogs return home for a three-game series against the Mavericks starting on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 6:35PM at Tim's Toyota Center.
